Learn more about our extraordinary teams building inspiring projects in our Impact Report.  Project Overview: Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.  Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world. Job Summary: In this role, you will provide technical guidance to promote consistency across projects, customers, and business lines. You will provide detailed review and support to capital cost estimates, cash flow, working capital assessments, and to the preparation of estimate documentation. Your recommendations ensure accurate cost estimations and will be essential in driving project profitability and success.  Major Responsibilities: The following duties are performed with respect to Estimate Execution, the process of conducting an evaluation of services and/or capital cost elements of a project or effort as defined by an agreed-upon scope that will be used to make key management decisions: Prepares SMP capital cost estimates in specialised discipline areas using current techniques and market pricing. Participates in establishing pricing structures to be applied to quantities for estimates. Ability to Develop crewed based installation assessments for mechanical and piping packages. Conducts capital cost estimates. Reviews design scope criteria and develops quantities for undefined scope assumptions. Supports complex/conducts basic conceptual/order of magnitude (OOM) estimates. Develops conceptual quantities to supplement partial lump sum and Design Build design documents when definition is not available. Contributes to basis and assumption documentation. Takes a lead role in estimate reviews and presentations. Interfaces with designated management personnel on specific sections of estimate presentations. Generates and retrieves reports in the appropriate software application, understands and summarises the data in the required presentation for management reviews. Supports risk analysis assessment by identifying areas of risk. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated advanced understanding of SMP Estimating core processes requiring minimal direction and supervision Thorough understanding of construction methods and techniques. Highly organised and have the ability to coordinate between different functions to attain the required inputs. Knowledge of EPC and EPCM estimating methods, processes, and procedures, in addition to the estimate types, classifications, and components. Broad knowledge and experience in construction estimating practices and methods. Practical experience in performing quantity take-offs, statistical analysis, and cost and price analysis. Skill in understanding technical discipline processes. Performs cost and price analysis to establish price reasonableness. Reviews or assists in reviewing cost/pricing provisions of proposals and develops supporting data for contract negotiations.   Prepares cost studies utilising historical data, statistical analysis, and cost and quantity comparisons. Innovative and develops new techniques as required to meet specific needs.. Skilled in understanding and implementing technical discipline processes, engineering drawings, quantity determinations, and mathematical and financial reports. Proficiency in basic Microsoft software applications currently being used by Bechtel (Word, Excel, Access. PowerPoint). Knowledge of scheduling software used by Bechtel (Primavera, Microsoft Project). Skilled in oral and written communication with basic presentation skills Assists in developing unit staffing, job hour and pricing data for a specific discipline or other specialty, including estimating parameters, factors, indices, and craft distribution reference data, etc., based on analysis of Bechtel and industry experience. Performs data analysis, identifies problems and makes recommendations. Identifies or defines data sources and techniques for data acquisition. Prepares reports and estimate summaries for estimate reviews, as directed by supervisor. Participates in estimate reviews and presentations, as appropriate.
