Learn more about our extraordinary teams building inspiring projects in our Impact Report.  Project Overview: Pluto Train 2 is the expansion of a second LNG train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility near Karratha in Western Australia run by Woodside Energy. Pluto Train 2 will process Scarborough gas and have an LNG capacity of ~5 million tonnes per annum. As part of the construction of Pluto Train 2, additional domestic gas infrastructure will be installed to increase capacity to ~225 Terajoules per day. Woodside Energy has selected Bechtel to deliver the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning scope of work for Pluto Train 2. Woodside Energy is Australia's leading natural gas producer, and Bechtel is excited to be collaborating with this key customer to help meet the increasing global demand for LNG as a transitional energy source. Job Summary: The Lead Welding Superintendent is responsible for supervising multiple welding supervisors and ensuring resources are efficiently utilized across multiple work areas. Ensures assigned supervisors’ performance is compliant with Bechtel Welding control manual, SWPP, specifications and codes. Monitor actual performance versus assigned unit rates and other metrics as determined by Construction Management. Primarily reports to the Project Field Superintendent for daily scheduled work priorities, coordination between other disciplines and assigned specific tasks. As the Welding Superintendent, establish technical and site-specific prioritization of work activities and craft crew distribution. Coordinates with Field Engineering for questions with design documents, materials, and other work control documents. This position may require at times to work night shift or overtime based on construction schedules. Major Responsibilities: Ensuring ES&H requirements are effectively communicated to project craft and provides leadership for environmental, safety, health, injury/accident, and fire prevention on the project Coordinate safety training and always enforce safe work behaviours and practices in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor. Ensure that Bechtel Core processes and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility. Providing continuous and ongoing coaching, recognition and feedback to welders and supervision Establishing reporting structure for craft welding organization Review of direct hire welder manpower plan – completing requisitions as required to support plan. This will also include interface with Labor/Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs. Site layout planning for project welding equipment Providing project specific training for each welder upon hiring Managing the completion and distribution of craft weld reports as outlined in this document Managing individual welder status and communicating with Project LFWE Ensuring that when a weld fails NDT, feedback and coaching is provided to the craft regarding failure mechanism, extent, etc. Development of welding equipment plan including welders, welder components and consumable gas Allocation and oversight of welding equipment and Gas allocation plan Development of quality and productivity based welder recognition program Ensuring craft evaluations are done in accordance with project requirements Prepare reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts. Provide input to Field Engineering for quantity tracking and report weekly installed quantities. Ensure the applicable design documents and welding procedures are provided to direct hire craft personnel to complete work, and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation. Provide input into work packages including means and methods, sequencing, and workforce loading Responsible for the cost, schedule and optimization of craft labour and maintaining the four weeks look ahead schedule for Labor and equipment. Implemented project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned work activities or applicable project specific policies and procedures Review craft time sheet using established automated tools Education and Experience Requirements: Minimum of 10 to 12 years industry experience in welding and welding supervision with a minimum 3 years Bechtel experience. Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field welding activities​ Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk downs which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in small and/or confined spaces, Required Knowledge and Skills: Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of EPCM construction programs, technologies, means and methods. Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities. Intermediate knowledge with ASME B31 series, AWS D1.1, and AS2885.2 Pipeline. Understanding Bechtel Standard work process procedures. Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.  Additional Information This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).
