Closing date:04 May 2025 Healthier& Fairer Futures Communications& Advocacy Coordinator   We are delighted to launch recruitment for an influential new secondment that will impact local and regional public health work, as well as drive national action. The successful candidate will facilitate and coordinate advocacy across the region on commercial determinants of health (CDOH), using compelling shared narratives. They will work as part of the regional CDOH programme on behalf of Yorkshire& Humber Association of Directors of Public Health (Y&H ADPH). This secondment provides an opportunity for those with several years’ public health experience to develop their system leadership skills in an exciting and fast-developing area of public and population health. The successful candidate will work across organisations to influence real population-level change to reduce premature mortality, morbidity, and inequalities. Background and purpose TheHealthier& Fairer Futures programmewas launched in 2021 on behalf of Y&H ADPH. It aims to target health inequalities and level-up the health and life chances of people in the region. The vision is to create a‘pro-health’ economy for people and the planet - an economy based on healthy options, healthy profits, and healthy lives. Over subsequent years this has grown into a programme of CDOH work including agreeing aPosition Statement, a seminar series to upskill the public health system (and beyond), andaction research. Yorkshire and Humber is ahead of the curve for addressing CDOH and continues to be a trailblazer for evidence-based public health action in this area. The most effective pro-health and preventative interventions occur at the population-level, and so we are looking for a motivated and driven individual to coordinate and progress national advocacy efforts on behalf of Y&H ADPH as well as enabling place-based work. The objective of this role is to facilitate and coordinate advocacy across the region on CDOH, working as part of the regional programme within Y&H ADPH, using compelling shared narratives. Developing, coordinating, and disseminating such narratives around key CDOH issues for use during and beyond the timeline of this role will involve: Working with key stakeholders to proactively coordinate narratives around key CDOH issues with shared messaging and framing Integrating these narratives into local, regional and national CDOH advocacy efforts according to local, regional, and national contexts and need Coordinating with regional and national partners to progress advocacy for national action on behalf of Y&H DPHs, as well as enabling place-based activity Key stakeholders for collaboration will include local authorities, Y&H Health& Wellbeing Team at the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), DHSC,Action on Smoking and Health(ASH), Alcohol Health Alliance, Obesity Health Alliance,Fresh-Balancein the North East, and the Integrated Care Boards (ICBs). Supervision and accountability Supervision of day-to-day activities will be undertaken by theFuture Leaders Programme(FLP) Fellow. Accountability and strategic oversight will be to the DPH sponsor for Y&H ADPH CDOH work. Additional support will also be provided by the Y&H ADPH CDOH Oversight Group. Role characteristics This role is a 1-year part time secondment to Y&H ADPH, at 0.5 WTE (2.5 days per week) alongside the postholders current role. Other WTE arrangements may be considered, such as for those already working less than full-time. The postholder will remain employed by their current employer, with reimbursement made by Y&H ADPH. We would like the secondment to begin at the earliest point possible, so we will work with the successful applicant and their line manager to begin the post as soon as we can following the appointment. We request that all applicants have the support of their local authority Director of Public Health, or senior line manager if from a different organisation, prior to applying. The post is intended to primarily involve remote working. However, there may be some meetings which require travel to areas within the Yorkshire and the Humber region.
