Essential: Experience working with a child of a similar age with autistic tendencies. Confident in managing behaviours that can challenge. Ability to work as part of a team and on your own
Start Date: ASAP
Days&Hours: Monday 10.00 am to 8.00pm, Tuesday to Friday 4.00pm to 8.00pm. (Saturdays are available as additional hours on an ad-hoc basis). School Holidays Monday to Friday 10.00 am to 8.00pm.

About this client/child: Amy is a happy and active 15-year-old who is largely motivated by music and food! She enjoys sunshine, relaxing, horse riding and swimming. She also enjoys going to the park (Richmond Park is very local to the family). Amy has a younger sister (11) and brother (9) who are both fun, lively and sporty characters. Amy acquired a brain injury at birth resulting in hemiplegia, epilepsy and sensory difficulties. She presents with some autistic tendencies and needs consistency as she can easily become dysregulated. Her epilepsy is not very frequent and is usually linked to illness, but she does occasionally have absent seizures. Amy is independently mobile, and communicates via Eye Gaze, Makaton, and gestures. She can experience sensory difficulties and display behaviours that may challenge if she feels over-stimulated, this is mainly biting and scratching and usually on herself.
Overview of role: This will be a highly rewarding position that will allow you to play a crucial role in Amy’s therapeutic programme. On Mondays Amy is home schooled and the day is jam-packed with therapy sessions, including OT, a Conductive Education session, and yoga. You will have the opportunity to both observe these sessions and work alongside the therapy team, providing an extra pair of hands. Tuesday to Friday Amy attends school so your role will be focused on after-school support and continuing to implement the strategies you will have been taught by her therapists. The family home is very well set up for Amy’s needs with a dedicated sensory room and separate classroom – the perfect space to help Amy thrive. Amy responds well to consistency and a sensory rich environment. Amy’s dad currently collects her from school, but this is something that could evolve over time. There is also additional ad-hoc Saturday or Sunday’s available if of interest depending on the activities thefamily has planned. The hourly rates offered are £22.00 weekdays and £25.00 Gross Per Hour during weekends.
Who this job would suit: We are looking for a vibrant, bubbly * Female Professional SEN Support Worker who can build a positive relationship with Amy whilst also remaining consistent, firm but fair. In this role you will be working closely with her therapy team, so being a good team player is crucial, but equally you’ll be someone who can use your initiative and think on your feet. Students with an interest in OT would largely benefit from this role.
What’s great about this job: There is training on-site with the OT therapist, as well as mandatory training all related to Amy. This is a great opportunity for someone to further their own knowledge and work closely with an array of therapists. In doing so you will help Amy continue to flourish and work towards her next learninggoals
