Streetworks Inspector Crewe, CW1 Full Time, 40 hours per week Do you have a passion for maintaining and improving our road networks?Our client, a market leader in the highways maintenance industry, is looking to recruit a Streetworks Inspector. Join Cheshire East Highways, the team responsible for managing over 2,700 km of highway network, and help deliver high-quality highway services that provide exceptional value to residents and businesses. As a Streetworks Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991, the Traffic Management Act (TMA) 2004, and associated codes of practice. You will work collaboratively with the Network Co-ordination Team to maintain safety, minimise disruption, and uphold the integrity of the Cheshire East road network. Key Responsibilities Inspection Oversight and Compliance: * Support the Network Management Team Leader in overseeing the inspection regime and performing day-to-day NRSWA/TMA inspections. * Ensure all activities comply with the NRSWA, TMA, and Highway Maintenance Act 1980. Public and Stakeholder Engagement: * Act as a point of contact for enquiries and complaints related to network activities. * Attend site meetings and support major schemes to minimise network disruption. * Assist statutory undertakers in delivering their works with minimal impact on the network. Application Review and Coordination: * Assist in reviewing and coordinating applications for skips, scaffolds, S50 road opening licences, and S171 permissions. * Assess the suitability and compliance of these applications with necessary codes of practice. Incident Response and Safety: * Respond promptly to urgent issues, including public enquiries, on-site incidents, and compliance concerns. * Intervene and take immediate action when significant highway dangers are identified. Reporting and Legal Representation: * Investigate accident claim sites, verify compliance, and compile detailed Engineer’s reports. * Represent Cheshire East Highways in court as an expert witness for third-party claims. Team Support and Leadership: * Provide job shadowing and guidance for new and existing team members. * Support the Network Management Team Leader in managing routine permit and sample inspections. Highway Work Monitoring: * Supervise and monitor contractors and utilities working on the highway to ensure compliance with safety and legislative standards. * Approve active traffic management measures to minimise impact on the network. About You * Customer care focused * Excellent verbal and written communication * Organised and able to meet deadlines * Ability to manage challenging conversations while remaining professional * Eye for detail * Committed to driving continuous improvements Even better if you have: * Knowledge of, and experience in, the maintenance, design and implementation of highway schemes including statutory processes, such as NRSWA 1991 * Experience working within a Local Authority environment * Experience of communicating with Local elected council members, members of the public, MP’s and affected stakeholders * Experience working with systems such as Symology/Confirm/Street Manager or other street works system * Good IT skills especially Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams * Significant knowledge of NRSWA/TMA Legislation, specifications, and relevant codes of practice * Registered on the Street Works Qualifications Register as
