Role: Property Solicitor REF 7913
Contract Length: 6 months - Part Time (20 hours per week)
Location: Letchworth Garden City - Flexible working options including home-working

Pay Rate to Intermediary:£50 - £55 per hour
Spinwell is recruiting for a Property Solicitor for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PROPERTY SOLICITOR
* To effectively conduct a case load of property matters and a mix of other matters in one or more of the other areas of legal work undertaken by the District Council and in the context of legislation and best practice relevant to Local Government and the public sector.
* To undertake research to assist the other lawyers in the team to provide advice to the Council in the areas of property law specifically and local government law generally.
* Timely response to legal instructions to ensure these meet agreed performance targets.
* Being the Council’s negotiator on the legal aspects of property transactions.
* Drafting leases, overage agreements, wayleaves, licences, contracts for property disposal/development and dealing with all matters ancillary thereto including lease renewals, enquiries, rights of way, searches, charges, investigation of title and registration. Also drafting instructions to Counsel and reports.
* To have conduct of matters relating to assets of community value, charitable trusts and property trust work generally.
* Contribute to preparation of Committee reports and attendance at Council and Committees meetings from time to time as directed and required.
* To periodically review all relevant standard documents within the areas of responsibility to ensure that theyare up to date and identify appropriate improvements in processes and procedures relevant to the section.
* To provide full, detailed and effective management information, including case updates as directed on a regular basis.
* To continue the development of performance standards and achievement of external accreditation.
* To compile, update and adhere to procedure notes and accredited practices.
* To attend client liaison meetings and corporate group meetings as required.
* Responsible for ensuring that the Council’s Officers and Members are apprised of changes in the law in the areas of responsibility.
* To undertake any other reasonable duty within the overall job objective as required commensurate with the grade.
* Advocacy in contested cases in the Magistrates or County Court or representation in property dispute arbitration.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE PROPERTY SOLICITOR
* Admitted qualified Solicitor, Cilex Fellow or Barrister.
* Substantial experience in effective handling of case load relating to property work. Including, but not limited, to leasehold and freehold transactions, Development Agreements, Overage Agreements, Deed of Easements, Licences for works, assignments and underlettings, lease renewals and landlord and tenant.
* Substantial experience in drafting agreements and dealing with complex legal matters.
* Substantial experience in the research and giving of advice and undertaking transactions or case work in matters relating to property.
* Experience of drafting complex and substantial documentation including reports, policies and procedures.
* Ability to effectively carry a caseload of property work.
* Ability to draft complex and substantial documentation on behalf of the Council, instructions to Counseland reports.
* Experience of dealing directly with and advising Elected Members and /or senior officers
* IT proficiency in particular Microsoft Office, online legal libraries and general case management systems.
* Effective presentation and communication skills, verbal and written.
* Ability to present advice in a way which is constructive, comprehensible, pragmatic and helpful.
* Experience of working as part of a team.
* Confident in conversing/ communicating in fluent English which to an excellent standard so as to fulfil all spoken and written aspects of the role.
