AWE is currently recruiting a Principal Commercial Manager (Principal Contract Manager) to focus on the management of complex contracts relating to either the design and build of new manufacturing plants and production sites, or systems/technology installed within the facilities.
Location: Reading, with free onsite parking.
Package:£60,000 to £92,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).

Let us introduce the role
The Principal Commercial Manager is a senior leadership position in the commercial function. You will be accountable to the Head of Commercial and lead an expert commercial team (6-8 FTE) to deliver via supply chain partners some of the most complex infrastructure projects in the United Kingdom. The role is varied and involves five key skill sets:
Commercial Leadership - own and develop the commercial strategies and practice to drive effective business value outcomes,
Contract Leadership - expert NEC or FDIC practitioner to ensure the contract is mitigating project risk, enforcing contract obligations/liabilities and lead disputes as required,
Supplier Relationship Management - work with industry leadership teams to improve strategic alignment and deliver innovations based on integrated team planning,
Team Leadership - be a role model for the business and create a high performing commercial team,
Business Leadership - be a member of the project leadership team to enable Programme Director deliver project outcomes.
AWE has two vacancies for Principal Commercial Manager and we are looking for candidates with the relevant experience andskillset aligned to the two positions below:
Construction Commercial Team - you will manage a £1bn contract portfolio to design and build new manufacturing plants and complex production sites for our explosives and production teams. You will lead an industry enterprise of design consultants, construction, and commissioning suppliers to deliver new facilities to time, cost and quality.
Science Commercial Team - you will manage a £1bn portfolio to work with industry to design and install some of the UK's most complex technology solutions to meet our hydrodynamic programme - which is leadingthe way in nuclear physics, creating new vessels and testing facilities/equipment for our most complex experiments. You will lead a commercial team to ensure R&D projects are delivered within an effective commercial environment, that enables both efficiencies and commercial tension, while will still enabling industry partners to innovate and deliver in a complex environment. This role will also involve international travel and working with our international partners to deliver joint solutions.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking individuals with commercial contract management experience, including NEC, JCT and/or FIDIC, and contract management tools such as CEMAR.
We do need you to have the following:
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex contractual arrangements,
Managing large complex infrastructure contracts to ensure they deliver value and objectives,
Managing multiple stakeholders and priorities,
Working at a similar level within a comparable organisation or industry, such as MOD, Nuclear, Defence or Regulated.
Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following:
Pricing arrangements e.g. target cost incentive fee,
Intellectual Property Rights, Trade Controls and Earned Value Management,
Preparing tender packages, conducting tender conferences, developing evaluation criteria, analysing, and evaluating proposals, negotiating subcontract provisions, subcontractor selection,
Outsourcing arrangements and TUPE,
Managing, motivating, and developing people/teams in a matrix team,
Creating integrated delivery teams and Intelligent Client functions,
Working in a Procurement and/or Commercial Function.

Important things you need to know:
You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance.
Hybrid working is available for this role on an informal, non-contractual basis. Typically 2 days onsite per week.
