The University is a multi-site operation with a sizeable proportion of its activities taking place on or close to the main campus in Plymouth. The Estates and Facilities Mechanical Systems Manager will join the team at an exciting time and will use their knowledge and skills to play a key role in the delivery of the Estate Strategy.
The Mechanical Systems Manager forms an essential part of the Estates team who manage the University estate of 190,000sqm of space, comprised of over 130 buildings of learning, research, social and commercial environments. As part of this team, you will be responsible for the availability and reliability of the associated mechanical plant and equipment, which includes the heating and ventilation of our buildings. The maintenance, life cycle management and compliance of these systems are of critical importance to the success of the University, providing an Estate which enables a high-quality student experience.
You will be responsible for the full lifecycle maintenance and operational availability of the University’s mechanical systems. You ensure that the mechanical assets are maintained to a high standard, have lifecycle extension or replacement plans, are operationally available and, where necessary, are backed-up to ensure a continued provision of service.
You will ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations and lead, direct and plan maintenance works to ensure that they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to a high quality. In doing so, you will monitor and audit works undertaken by the Building & Engineering Maintenance teams and appointed contractors.
Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring all projects handover the necessary completion and compliance certification to bring systems into service and onto a maintenance regime compliant with all relevant statutory and regulatory obligations.
A significant part of the role will be to manage, lead and direct our mechanical maintenance contracts. This will include monitoring Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators to ensure the required standards of service delivery.
You will possess a detailed knowledge of mechanical systems, their maintenance and compliance requirements.
You will be educated to further education level, equivalent or above (e.g. HNC or demonstrable equivalent experience) and ideally will be a member of a professional body (IWFM, CIBSE, IOSH or equivalent).
This post will suit professionals who are good communicators and positive team members with the ability to engage and communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
Ideally, you will hold a formal H&S qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH or other equivalent H&S qualification).

This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37 hours a week.
