Description: Seeking an experienced midwifery academic to lead teaching and research activities at the University of Plymouth
Based in the Faculty of Health, the School of Nursing and Midwifery programmes in the fields of adult, child and mental health nursing and in midwifery have been designed with our students’ career and the future needs of the workforce in mind. The School works in partnership with local NHS trusts to drive forward clinical research and support students in their learning to become the best nurses and midwives they can be.

An interdisciplinary approach to research covers sustainability, the evolution of services, use of new genetic knowledge and technologies, the ageing population, use of internet and mobile technologies, changes in clinical education, contemporary nursing, and how knowledge is translated into practice and policy.
We are looking to appoint an appropriately qualified and experienced Midwife to join the well-established team of midwifery lecturers and associate professors in the beautiful Southwest of England. You will deliver and lead teaching and research excellence related to midwifery, and lead the academic and clinical development of midwifery at the University. This will include the development of research-led pre and post-registration undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery programmes within the School of Nursing and Midwifery. You will also contribute to wider leadership, management and engagement activities within the School and Faculty of Health.
We offer pre-registration undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the shortened midwifery programme for registered nurses. Our offer includes the choice of campus based or blended learning for all programmes. We also offer post-registration MSc, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, CPD and Return to Practice programmes relevant to midwifery. You will also contribute to research in the School, which was rated highly in the REF2021 and continues to grow. The University of Plymouth Clinical Schools initiative is an exciting development, through which applied nursing and midwifery research focuses on topics that are timely and relevant to advancing the quality of care.
You should possess appropriate professional qualifications, registration as a Midwife with the NMC is essential, relevant post registration experience as a midwife (at least 5 years), a PhD in health or a related subject (or commensurate level of recognition at national/international level), a teaching qualification, and HEA fellowship (at senior level). Prior experience as a Lead Midwife for Education (LME) is preferred.

This position will involve working with children and/or vulnerable adults and any appointment will be subject a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
There is an essential requirement within this role that you will be required to travel to and work at different University sites and/or other business locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Please refer to the job description for further information.
The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis. We will consider requests for full-time, part-time or job-share. This position will be based at the University of Plymouth Campus at Drake Circus, Plymouth.
