Church and Tenant Empowerment Worker
Peterborough, East of England 1 month ago
Job Description
According to Shelter, currently one in every 206 people in England are without a home. We believe the church is ideally placed to be at the forefront of addressing this critical need. Our mission at Hope into Action is to enable the local church to house the homeless and we’re looking for a Team Lead and Church & Tenant Empowerment worker to join our team in Peterborough.
Hours are negotiable but will either be 4 or 5 days a week (32 or 40 hours). You will be based in the Hope into Action Hope Centre working alongside the Peterborough team and rest of Support Centre.
You will work in partnership with local churches to support and empower tenants in our homes. These tenants will have experienced homelessness and it will be your role to support tenants to set and work towards personal goals and to empower them towards a fulfilled life, enabling them to move on to independent living.
Each home is partnered with a local church who provide love and friendship for the tenants that you will also support. This will involve actively engaging with the church and maintaining church interest in the Hope into Action project. The role includes training, equipping, and encouraging church volunteers in their role as mentors and befrienders to the tenants.
You will be passionate about our work with the homeless and share our values. You will be able to work with members of the public, professional bodies and churches. You will need to be able to work with tenants with support needs, from a wide range of backgrounds.
We value good listening skills. The ability to work in a flexible team and learn new skills is important as we foster working within a strong supportive team.
We love diversity and we value your unique skills, strengths, knowledge, and experience. Becoming one of our team may realise your potential, helping us to raise our performance in empowering those we serve.
Please contact Kate Doran-Smith (Head of Delivery & Training) via phone on 07908 202944 or email kate.doran-smith@hopeintoaction.org.uk for an informal discussion about this role.
