OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE Musical Director of a brand new Real Voices choir in Battersea (Clapham Junction) When: Wednesday evenings. 7.15-9.15pm Where: Clapham Junction Church, 2 Grant Road, SW11 2NU. Start Date: ideally 21st May 2025 although we can be flexible for the right candidate. Most of our Musical Directors have led two choirs and have worked with us for a number of years. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead weekly choir rehearsals during term time on Wednesday evenings. Teach arrangements provided by Real Voices and prepare the choir to the highest possible standard for the performances Lead and present gigs with choir and band Lead one weekend afternoon rehearsal per term with choir and band Actively encourage a sense of community within the choir Maintain a weekly rehearsal attendance record Update singers via email on a weekly basis Keeping a register and general email communication with the singers are the only administrative elements to this role SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS&EXPERIENCE Essential Experience directing choirs Ability to lead rehearsals and concerts from the piano (with choir and band) Strong piano and vocal skills (you will not be provided with a notated piano part and will instead improvise a piano accompaniment based on chords) A commitment to working in an accessible and inclusive way with a diverse group of participants including mixed age groups and levels of experience Ability to lead fun yet productive rehearsals Fantastic teaching skills Strong administrative skills Desired Experience playing in, working with or leading a band Experience directing a mixed ability group of singers Music degree (or relevant experience) PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Charismatic and engaging Professional and reliable An infectious joy for music and what you do An engaging leadership/teaching style that will make singers feel supported yet challenged Motivating and encouraging with the ability to get the best out of amateur singers A real interest and enjoyment in how you communicate all aspects of music when teaching/delivering rehearsals Confident public speaker.
