Job Description

Now Education are working in partnership with Manchester College who require a full time Achievement Tutor to support their students who are currently Performing Arts and Visual Arts. The hours of work are Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM, 35 hours per week and the college is easily accessed by both public transport and car. This is an excellent opportunity to secure long term and full time work in one of the UK's largest FE providers. You will join a team of 6 committed Achievement Tutors and will be managed by the Senior Achievement Tutor. You will manage allocated students/groups students and deliver a highly effective tutorial and pastoral programme which ensures the overall academic, pastoral, social and behavioural progress of students is tracked and supported so students achieve outstanding retention, achievement, progress and progression outcomes. Main Duties Include: Teaching– Deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment including activities, resources and homework, to be used in the classroom, study areas, off site and at home. Teach and deliver group and personal tutorials in accordance with policies and procedures. Maintain the timely and accurate completion of registers and electronic recording systems. Within a Scheme of Learning, develop lesson plans to ensure compliance with curriculum best practice and quality targets. Develop assessments and mark students’ work, ensuring learning outcomes have been met and that feedback is both constructive and includes how to further develop learning, behaviour and personal development. Use technology to develop and enhance the learning environment both inside and outside of the classroom. Value each student as an individual and provide support, guidance and care to enable them to achieve to their maximum potential, working in collaboration with other staff, internal and external support services and working closely with parents/carers as appropriate. Deliver regular, high quality 1-1 pastoral reviews to monitor and review the progress of allocated students/groups through their Programme of study/course including, as appropriate to the student cohort. Deliver a high-quality Induction programme and regular, high quality group tutorials covering topics in line with the Tutorial and Induction Policy including Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding and ensuring that student understanding of topics relevant to their local and wider community is extended. Ensure effective tracking, personalised target setting and review, and provision of additional academic coaching including study skills development as required, to support high levels of achievement including the setting and monitoring of student support and behavioural contracts in line with the College’s Behaviour, Support and Disciplinary Policy. Monitor and support high levels of retention, attendance and punctuality in line with the College’s Attendance and Punctuality Policy utilising a range of tracking mechanisms such as EBS attendance and general EBS Reports. Raise the aspiration of students by encouraging them to achieve the best grades possible. Track and action plan students to ensure they are supported to meet their target grades set. Ensure Student Voice is embedded into the Tutorial programme andgroups are supported to contribute to the Student Voice structures and systems and can see their voices making a positive difference. Ensure At-Risk students are identified and supported in line with the College’s At-Risk Policy and plan and deliver personal, social and behavioural and welfare interventions to meet the individual needs of students. Take a lead role in ensuring the well-being and safeguarding of students through the content of the Tutorial programme and in line with the Safeguarding Policy and Procedures. Work closely with other Achievement Tutors, and other staff as appropriate, to ensure standardisation of an outstanding student experience, including working in collaboration with other Achievement Tutors to develop resources and approaches to add value to the full student experience and to support personal development through participation in peer observation andin the identification and dissemination of good practice. Ensure effective communication with teaching and support staff via LIP and through contribution to Curriculum team meetings, Curriculum Support Group Meetings, Student Review Boards, Review Weeks, Attendance Reviews as appropriate and to take the lead in ensuring collaborative ways of working to meet the needs of students. Ensure that students undergo appropriate initial and diagnostic assessments and are receiving appropriate levels of support (e.g. ALS, financial support) and that appropriate referrals are made appropriately to Student Mentors, Student Safeguarding Practitioners and the Student Experience team, Guidance&Welfare, Supported Learning teams and other internal and external agencies as appropriate to ensure that a full range of support is available to students and to lead, where appropriate, on a team‘wrap-around’ approach to supporting individual at-risk students. Ensure effective communication with parents/carers including through use of the Parent Portal and ensuring Parent/Carer reports are completed in a timely fashion and communicated to parents. Work collaboratively with identifiedinternal and external partners to implement a framework of employability, enrichment and additional personal development activities; including a programme of work placement opportunities, volunteering, guest speakers and trips and visits, including accompanying students on trips if required. Work in collaboration within the department to agree and monitor progress towards targets through use of rigorous self-assessment and ongoing Business Planning processes in order to cultivate an environment of continuous improvements. The ideal candidate will have the ability to deliver Tutorial programmes and progress 1:1s with 16-18 students. You will have experience of working with groups of young people - ideally within an education setting. Subject specific knowledge is not required as all tutorial material is pre prepared.
