About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Mentor to support students from under-resourced backgrounds in reaching their full potential and accessing top universities. You will work directly with students in a school setting in Thamesmead , helping them improve their grades, make strong university applications, and build the skills necessary for higher education.
As a Mentor, you will be responsible for engaging with students, matching them with volunteer tutors, and monitoring their progress. You will build strong relationships with students, school staff, and tutors, ensuring a positive experience for everyone involved and the smooth delivery of the programme.
Main Responsibilities:
Provide mentor support to students, helping them develop the skills and confidence to pursue higher education.
Manage the enrolment of students onto the mentoring and tutoring programme.
Monitor student attendance and progress, ensuring they remain engaged and on track to meet their goals.
Match students with volunteer tutors and maintain positive relationships with both parties.
Track and report on student progress using an internal database (Salesforce training provided).
Collaborate with school staff to ensure programme delivery is smooth and timely.
Lead termly meetings with school leadership to review progress.
Occasionally assist with tutor training sessions and attend university site visits (some Saturdays and evenings; time off will be provided).
Contribute to broader team projects and assist with any other tasks as required by management.This role involves working in school three days a week, with two flexible working days (including Fridays for training and meetings), which can be done remotely or in the office in Southwark SE1, depending on your preference.
Person Specification:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and motivate students.
Excellent time management and organisational skills.
Experience in building and maintaining relationships witha variety of stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, manage change, and take initiative.
Adaptable and resilient, with a commitment to delivering excellent results.
