Hull City Council is seeking a driven and innovative Community Cohesion Manager to support the delivery of our Community Plan 2024-2034 and the Safer Hull Community Safety Partnership Strategy. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to play a key role in fostering strong community relations, promoting safety, and ensuring the well-being of all residents within Hull.
This is a newly developed role and will be hosted within the Safer Hull team. Safer Hull drives the delivery of Hulls Community Safety Partnership. The work undertaken by the Safer Hull team is largely project and partnership based, working to prevent and respond to a range of community safety issues across this city, allowing the postholder access to stakeholders and resources from across the wider partnership.
The postholder will lead the development of the cohesion and integration agenda, taking an instrumental role in developing and supporting a partnership response across the Council and the Safer Hull Community Safety Partnership. The postholder will be expected to develop the strategic approach to community cohesion in partnership with statutory partners and voluntary/community sector organisations, with the aim of developing a long-term delivery plan for the whole city, in line with the Safer Hull Community Safety Strategy and Hull Council’s Community Plan 2024-2034.
The role will focus on building capacity and resilience within communities, both established and new and emerging as well as supporting organisations, to reduce inequalities and build a sense of belonging. This will be done through exemplary leadership and sounds organisational skills. Central to this work will be a focus on engaging with all communities across the city. The post will play a fundamental role around countering extremism in communities and preventing radicalisation.
The Community Cohesion Manager will be expected to develop a system thinking and solutions focused approach to community cohesion, social inclusion, and local tensions by developing action plans and monitoring frameworks via the design and implementation of both strategic and operational projects. A key element of this work will be to develop and deliver a communications strategy aiming to foster and promote tolerance within and between communities whilst also raising awareness of hate crime and subsequent reporting mechanisms.
We are looking for someone with:
Proven experience in community development, social inclusion, or public sector roles, with a focus on community cohesion and safety.
A sound understanding of community safety issues and strategies for tackling them.
Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse groups.
A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and community engagement.
Knowledge of the local landscape and an understanding of Hull’s unique community challenges.
