Why this role:
As a Research and Statistics Data Quality Officer, you will be responsible for undertaking important data quality analysis for the Gambling Commission, drawing upon a range of data sources to enable the Commission to understand consumer gambling behaviour and who is at risk of gambling-related harm as well as the size and shape of the gambling market in Great Britain. This role plays a key part in the delivery and production of high-quality statistics, data visualisations and reports.
The Research and Statistics Department
We have approximately 30 people working across the Research and Data department, including people who are focused on data innovation. The team work on different projects and have exposure to new software and opportunities to learn new skills. This role is no exception and it provides the perfect grounding to develop and progress into data analysis.

Your responsibilities:
- You will be measuring and assuring data quality, including the timely analysis and reporting of data quality issues
- You will manage data quality documentation, maintaining standards and definitions, using documents and guidance
- You will play a key role in helping to resolve data quality issues, improving data quality by identifying, assessing, documenting and communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- You will assist with the improvement of data quality processes and development of systems, helping to foster an evidence-led culture within the Commission
- You will work collaboratively within the Research&Statistics team at the Gambling Commission, providing information and advice to staff and stakeholders
What we’re looking for:
Essential criteria:
1. Strong attention to detail, particularly in working with data
2. Experience of identifying trends, patterns and anomalies in datasets
3. Good time management, and ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
4. Well-developed spoken and written communication skills - experience of expressing complex ideas in a range of formats (including the use of charts and graphics)
5. The ability to form productive relationships at all levels whilst possessing excellent team working skills
Desirable criteria:
1. Experience of working with MS Excel, Power BI orother statistical packages
2. Experience of data analysis, finding patterns or stories in survey or administrative datasets
3. Knowledge of the gambling industry and gambling sector stakeholders
