British Sugar is a home-grown success story and one of the most efficient and competitive beet processers in the world. Around 3,500 farmers based in East Anglia and the East Midlands supply our four advanced manufacturing sites with eight million tonnes of sugar beet every year. Salary Range£52,517.00 to £54,568.00 Job Purpose Mechanical biased technician supporting process operations and maintenance activities across the site. Shift Based: Reporting to the Engineering Lead and working as part of a multi-skilled team on shift during Operational periods, this role will carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance as required. During gap periods, this role could also undertake basic electrical maintenance activities. Days: Reporting to the Engineering Lead, this role will carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance as required. Core Accountabilities Work in partnership with Shift Performance Manager, Lead Engineer and shift and day-based technicians to carry out repairs to process plant Troubleshooting and practical fault finding on plant and mechanical systems Installation of new plant or modifications as appropriate Carry out planned inspection routes on process plant and proactive maintenance During maintenance periods undertake maintenance activities as well as testing and commissioning plant in readiness for operations Reporting of all engineering activities in the appropriate format into the Computer MaintenanceManagement System (CMMS) Making plant safe for maintenance Competent to receive and/or authorise a range of permits as required Skills, Knowledge&Competencies Comprehensive technical knowledge and hands on skills gained through large scale, complex operational factory experience. This would include but not limited too in-depth knowledge of Pump types, gearbox types, bearing types including installation, alignment of mechanical moving parts (Single&Multistage), and conveyor&elevator systems Understanding of hazards and controls associated with a complex industrial environment and producing food and feed (IOSH training preferable). Understanding with technical knowledge and experience of lifting&rigging activities with relevant training. IPAF training preferred. PASMA training preferred. ONC / HNC in Mechanical Engineering supported by a recognised apprenticeship, or equivalent experience  A proven track record of effective technical problem solving, fault diagnosis, maintenance and continuous improvement. This would include being able to interpret engineering drawings and manuals. Ability to work as an individual and with groups Ability to effectively balance urgent and important tasks Knowledge and effective use of computer systems (Computerised maintenance management system and general computer systems such as Microsoft/ procurement systems). Procurement of parts and materials. Experience in manual maching preferable but not essential. Experience of working in a lean operating environment Experience of working in an operational team of varying disciplines and skill levels Minimum equivalent industry experience,  3 years post training, or equivalent
