Learn more about our extraordinary teams building inspiring projects in our Impact Report.  Project Overview: Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.  Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world. Job Summary: Performs Construction / Indirects discipline cost estimating and contractor distributable cost estimates; and control activities for project and/or proposal efforts. Performs historical data analysis and maintains historical databases. Supports estimate reporting and reviews. Provides technical direction to assigned personnel when delegated. Supports training activities, as needed. Executes simultaneous tasks within broadly defined parameters.  Major Responsibilities: The following duties are performed with respect to Estimate Execution, the process of conducting an evaluation of services and/or capital cost elements of a project or effort as defined by an agreed-upon scope that will be used to make key management decisions: Prepares contractors preliminary / distributable, contractor indirect and/or capital cost estimates in specialised discipline areas using current techniques and market pricing. Prepares detail staffing plans, with construction input, for field office professional and contractor indirect labour, ‘costs and schedule’. Provide detailed cost analysis of construction camp and temporary facility requirements to support the execution of the project. Develops construction equipment time phased schedule and costs, with construction input, based on the projects execution methodology. Supports complex/conducts basic conceptual/order of magnitude (OOM) estimates. Develops conceptual quantities to supplement partial lump sum and Design Build design documents when definition is not available. Contributes to basis and assumption documentation Conducts capital cost estimates. Reviews design scope criteria and develops quantities for undefined scope assumptions. Takes a lead role in estimate reviews and presentations. Interfaces with designated management personnel on specific sections of estimate presentations Generates and retrieves reports in the appropriate software application, understands and summarises the data in the required presentation for management reviews. Supports risk analysis assessment by identifying areas of risk. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated advanced understanding of Estimating core processes requiring minimal direction and supervision Thorough understanding of construction methods and techniques. Thorough understanding construction utility requirements to support the execution of the project. Highly organised and have the ability to coordinate between different functions to attain the required inputs. Knowledge of EPC and EPCM estimating methods, processes, and procedures, in addition to the estimate types, classifications, and components. Broad knowledge and experience in construction estimating practices and methods. Performs cost and price analysis to establish price reasonableness. Reviews or assists in reviewing cost/pricing provisions of proposals and develops supporting data for contract negotiations Practical experience in performing quantity take-offs, statistical analysis, and cost and price analysis. Skill in understanding technical discipline processes. Familiar with engineering and construction codes and standards. Skilled in understanding and implementing technical discipline processes, engineering drawings, quantity determinations, and mathematical and financial reports Excellent applied analytical and quantitative skills. Effective in utilising metrics to provide reasonableness checks. Proficiency in basic Microsoft software applications currently being used by Bechtel (Word, Excel, Access. PowerPoint). Knowledge of scheduling software used by Bechtel (Primavera, Microsoft Project). Proficiency in estimating applications used for discipline estimates. Skilled in oral and written communication with basic presentation skills Assists in developing unit staffing, job hour and pricing data for a specific discipline or other specialty, including estimating parameters, factors, indices, and craft distribution reference data, etc., based on analysis of Bechtel and industry experience. Performs data analysis, identifies problems and makes recommendations. Identifies or defines data sources and techniques for data acquisition.
