About the Greenbelt Foundation:The Greenbelt Foundation stewards Ontario's Greenbelt, two million acres of protected land that provides clean air, fresh water, climate resilience, and a reliable local food source to help Ontario thrive. The Foundation was established in 2005 with a mandate to support the long-term viability of agriculture, strengthen rural economies, and restore and enhance natural features. We are the only charitable organization solely dedicated to the health and prosperity of Ontario's Greenbelt. About the Project & Position:The Greenbelt Foundation is recruiting a Certified Crop Advisor to support our Soil Health Program in 2025 and 2026, working directly with farmers across the Golden Horseshoe (primarily Niagara, Hamilton, Peel, Halton, York, Durham) to promote beneficial management practices (BMPs) that increase climate resilience, improve water quality, and build productivity and profitability for farmers. To date, we have collected soil health samples from over 150 grain and oilseed farmers, and individual Soil Health Reports have been shared with them including soil health management plans. We are now seeking a Certified Crop Advisor to meet with these farmers, helping them interpret their results, set achievable goals, review soil health management plans, and adopt BMPs tailored to their operation. We are looking for an experienced Crop Advisor to provide seasonal support, working more intensively during the summer months (June-August), with a part-time retainer throughout the rest of the year in both 2025 and 2026. This contract offers flexibility to align with the successful candidate’s schedule, with the priority of meeting with all farmers at least once annually. We are open to working with the candidate’s availability and recommendations to ensure effective support. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:Contact farmers and landowners participating in our Soil Health Program to schedule and conduct in-person farm visits.Help participants understand their Soil Health Report and interpret test results, soil health management plans, and set clear soil health goals based on farm-specific data.Provide customized BMP recommendations aligned with their goals and operational needs, and deliver an updated Soil Health Management Plan, including available cost-share program information and educational resources. These could include specific recommendations on managing or reducing tillage, expanding or adjusting crop rotations, planning cover crop options (mixes, timing, termination), using organic amendments (e.g., manure, compost) and other practices.Provide ongoing advice and support to participants as they work towards their goals.Track BMP adoption, maintain records, and contribute to program evaluation.Report regularly to the Greenbelt Foundation. Qualifications:Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) Designation with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.Proven experience working directly with farmers, with the ability to engage comfortably in outreach, education, and BMP adoption support. Enthusiasm for meeting landowners/farmers and understanding of agricultural management practices is required.Experience in translating technical information regarding soil health principles and practices into accessible recommendations for what producers can do to improve the health of their soils.Demonstrated training and/or experience in providing advice to farmers on crop production and related natural resource management.Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.Organizational skills and attention to detail.Valid G driver’s license.Applicants must be authorized to work in Canada. Location:The role requires extensive travel across the Golden Horseshoe (Niagara, Hamilton, Halton, Peel, York, and Durham) to meet with farmers on-site. The candidate will be provided with a rental car for farm visits, or they may use their own vehicle and be compensated for travel.
