Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Employment Opportunities Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
Here at The Kids our vision is simple; Happy, Healthy Kids! We want kids to be able to live their lives to the healthiest and happiest, right here in our community – and around the world.
The Kids have an overarching commitment to address the inequity of the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and families.

We now have an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Community Project Officer to work in partnership with health researchers and the team to assist with Aboriginal community engagement, clinician support and patient/family resources within impactful research in skin health and infectious diseases.
This position places a key focus on developing and maintaining relationships with participating families, communities and Aboriginal Elders whilst collaborating with our team to ensure our processes and ways of working are culturally safe.
With an experienced project team around you, you will also have an opportunity to contribute to the following activities:
Contribute to the development of workshop and training opportunities with local and national Aboriginal health services.
Support the development of resources, project newsletters and other materials.
Provide input into design and implementation of knowledge translation activities, including guiding the sharing of knowledge back into communities, ensuring content is accessible for Aboriginal communities and is effectively communicated & understood.
Ensure that the team’s research activities align with cultural values, protocols, and practices and provide guidance on culturally appropriate data collection methods.
You will have an opportunity to work with influential researchers and health organisations in WA and around Australia, supporting the development of culturally safe materials, leading co-design processes, working with Aboriginal Advisory Committees, and building cultural awareness into research governance.
Conveniently located within the Perth Children’s Hospital, this full-time opportunity will be offered on an ongoing basis. We are open to discussing the possibility of part-time hours and/or flexible start and finish times, dependant on the successful candidates.
If you are passionate about working in Aboriginal and Child Health Research and excited to connect with different families, communities and services to support better health outcomes for our kids, then we want to hear from you!
The key to your success will be your demonstrated experience in the following:
Demonstrated experience in providing health information to communities, families and individuals in a culturally appropriate way.
Knowledge of the contemporary issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
Demonstrated experience in building relationships and working collaboratively with key stakeholders at various levels.
Demonstrated ability to set goals, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a larger research team.
We are driving inclusion and diversity as part of the way we work and embrace the diverse career and life experiences of our staff. If you meet a number of the requirements (and not all), we encourage you to submit your application. We also encourage you to address any career disruptions (if applicable) you may have had in your cover letter.
Our aim is to create a workplace where people are respected and encouraged to fulfil their potential. We encourage a workforce that is innovative, eager to acquire knowledge and enhance skills; we embrace all employee differences, foster a culture that supports diversity and inclusion, and are committed to providing reasonable accommodations where required.
Our work is supported by our Kulunga Aboriginal Unit, which supports researchers conducting Aboriginal health research and links Aboriginal communities and organisations with key research that will work towards closing the gap in the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and families.
