The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) is a justice service that resolves a wide range of disputes for the Victorian community, including renting, planning, and consumer disputes. The Koori Support Officer is responsible for providing cultural and emotional support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons accessing VCAT. This role will contribute towards increased, positive engagement with Victorian Aboriginal Communities, VCAT staff and Members An ability to attend the VCAT Community Based Venues of Oakleigh and Frankston would be highly desirable. In addition to an ability to attend VCAT locations within the Melbourne CBD as required to provide in-hearing support to First Nations people, VCAT Members and a range of stakeholders. The VCAT Koori Support Team is a supportive team of staff who strive to deliver safe, cultural and emotional support, strong referral pathways and positive engagement with the view to empower Aboriginal persons throughout their VCAT experience. In this role, you will be responsible for: Contributing towards the successful operation of the Koori Support Team within the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT). Engaging and supporting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander persons throughout their VCAT experience. Navigating a range of database and case management operating systems Participating in various stakeholder meetings and additional forums to provide support, consultation and guidance regarding projects and operational needs. Establishing, consulting and maintaining effective working relationships with the Victorian Aboriginal Community and other key internal and external stakeholders, including Government and non-Government agencies, and regularly liaise and negotiate with these stakeholders to proactively identify and resolve issues.
