Aboriginal Hostels Limited Aboriginal Hostels Limited’s (AHL) vision is to improve the quality of life and opportunities for First Nations People through their national network of hostels.  AHL hostels are like a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay. As part of its national network, AHL has secondary education hostels to support First Nations students in achieving their educational goals by offering tutoring, organising out-of-school activities, and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.  This is an opportunity to contribute to the educational, social and cultural development of young First Nations peoples.  As the Head of Boarding, you will manage and supervise the day-to-day operations of the hostel.  Leading a team of Residential Youth Workers and Hostel Workers, you will be a key contact for students, teachers, parents and the community. You will support students to feel culturally safe while staying in their home away from home. Your responsibilities will include: Hostel operations – facility management, budgeting, reporting and WHS Staff management – coordination of hostel rosters, performance management and leadership  Student services – pastoral care, safety and welfare and ensuring students maintain eligibility for ABSTUDY or other funding sources Community engagement – establishing productive working relationships with local providers and suppliers People with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and issues affecting First Nations peoples are well suited to this opportunity.  While experience within Secondary Education is desirable, you may come from a range of different backgrounds, including education, pastoral care, youth work or residential care.  A successful Head of Boarding must have empathy and resilience with an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively.  This is an Affirmative Measures – First Nations applicants only position.
