Join Victoria's brand-new correctional facility in an ongoing full-time role
Seeking a highly skilled Barber to deliver services and support training in conjunction with education providers
Support the upskilling and reintegration of men in custody to improve their opportunities returning to the community
Western Plains Correctional Centre (Western Plains) is Victoria's newest maximum-security correctional facility, designed to house up to 1,248 people in custody.
Western Plains is a multi-purpose facility that adapts to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria. It features purpose-built modern amenities including medical wards, a cultural centre and vocational training facilities. It also utilises cutting-edge technology to keep the facility secure, allowing staff to focus on supporting the rehabilitation of people in custody.
Western Plains will open mid-2025 and Corrections Victoria are now recruiting key roles to help shape the future operations of the facility.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Barber to join our team.
As part of the Vocational Services team, this role is dedicated to delivering essential and ancillary services to support the men in custody and advance their development.
Reporting to the Vocational Services Manager, this position will be responsible for providing haircuts to persons in our care, alongside training and mentoring prisoner workers, helping them enhance their technical skills, knowledge, and customer service abilities.
The Barber will work with our education provider to deliver training programs, provide feedback, and ensure adherence to industry standards, while maintaining a high-quality service. The Barber will support training of vital skills to persons in our care with a view to assisting in long term job prospects and enabling support back into community.
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
Demonstrated team management skills, providing clear direction, advice and necessary support in day-to-day work
Expertise developing and implementing new processes and procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience within a correctional services environment (desirable).
