Learn more about our extraordinary teams building inspiring projects in our Impact Report.  Project Overview: Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. Job Summary: This role will be involved in the analysis and design of rail mounted machines for the materials handling industry. Bechtel have a number of projects in which this style of machine is a fundamental component of the system. As a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s civil/structural aspects of rail mounted machines for the materials handling industry. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.  Major Responsibilities: Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications for structures, building, roadways, railroads, etc. Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates Civil/Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures  Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of DIN ISO and Australian Standards for the design and construction of rail mounted machines for the materials handling mining industry. Experience in the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) analytical techniques preferred. Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
