Job Description
The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) is based within the Department of Archaeology, and is located within the medieval King’s Manor building in central York. It is a world-leading digital repository which provides digital data archiving services for UK archaeology. We are a recognised component of UKRI’s research infrastructure and hold the Core Trust Seal. We are based in the University of York but work closely with external partners, both in Higher Education and in the public and commercial archaeological sectors. All archived data is available Open Access and ADS funding is equally split between data deposit charges and research and consultancy, including a number of international projects. The ADS also hosts public-facing services to facilitate the collection of digital material. These include ADS-EASY for online deposition of files, and OASIS, a system for the recording of fieldwork events in the UK hosted on behalf of national heritage agencies.
This is a new role designed to support an increasing volume of ADS activity, and to take a lead role in providing online and face-to-face training for ADS data depositors and end-users of ADS data resources. The post-holder will also be expected to manage the online helpdesk, oversee the communications group, and to work closely with the Collections Development Manager and Research Projects Manager to identify opportunities, and build up and manage an expanding client portfolio. The post-holder will also support and manage a number of projects, taking responsibility for their successful delivery on schedule and within budget.
