Purpose of the Job
The Outreach and Engagement Manager: Heritage reports directly to the Future Culture Lead and is responsible for leading targeted outreach and engagement across the borough focusing on Heritage, including responsibility for the History Centre and Museum.
What the job actually requires
To support the delivery of a vibrant, dynamic Culture & Heritage Service that has the preservation and interpretation of Kingston’s heritage and collections at the heart of it.
Ensure heritage is present in placemaking discussions through building links with key stakeholders including colleagues in Planning, Regeneration and Economic Development.
Lead targeted outreach and engagement across the borough focusing on the Heritage Service, and working closely with the Outreach and Engagement Managers across Culture & Heritage.
Work closely with the Heritage team and colleagues across Culture and Heritage to ensure a high standard of service is delivered to a diverse community including a core offer, collections, events and activities, providing support and training where required.
Lead on evaluation of delivery, using evidence, data, and strategic information to drive performance, ensuring all the Culture and Heritage Service operates at a high level, and reflects the needs of communities.
Support the Future Culture Lead in the management of key sector and strategic relationships, e.g., Arts Council England, The National Archives, National Heritage Lottery Fund, and local stakeholders including the Friends of Kingston Museum & Heritage Service
Through line management of the Borough Archivist, Heritage Supervisor and Curators, support them as service leads for the re-accreditation process including supporting them in the preparation of documentation required for re-accreditation, maintaining this status, and ensuring that policies and procedures are embedded and updated.
Collaborate with a range of colleagues and partners across RBK and the voluntary and community sector to promote the Culture and Heritage Service, to develop targeted physical and digital projects and seek suitable funding to deliver and sustain them.
Develop and ensure delivery and promotion of the physical and digital strategy, programming, and operational planning for the range of Culture and Heritage services in liaison with others, empowering the community to engage with culture and heritage. Providing support to frontline staff to ensure a range of digital and physical services are delivered.
Responsible for community outcomes, engagement, and diversifying audiences.
Responsible for seeking out opportunities and developing bids to enable further funds to deliver targeted services and projects in the Borough.
Identify best practice in the sector and arrange for new and innovative services or projects to be piloted, including fundraising.
Liaise with stakeholders and key funders, building and sustaining existing and new partnerships.

It has been acknowledged that culture is critical to health and wellbeing, the local economy and regeneration projects. Kingston Heritage Service is continually transforming. We are about to launch a digital preservation system in order to develop a digital archive. The History Centre and Kingston Museum are accredited services, free and open to all. You will be part of the Culture & Heritage service which brings together libraries, heritage, arts, music and adult education with a shared vision to place the vibrant and rich culture and heritage of the Borough at the centre of its life. Our transformation programme, Future Culture & Heritage, will bring together the specialist skills from across the team areas to develop an exciting programme which focuses on outreach into the communities to make the borough a destination place for culture and heritage. Working collaboratively with partners we wish to help engage, enable and empower our communities. We are always looking at new ways of working, new technologies to help support our customers and deliver an excellent service.During Covid-19 we built on our digital offer which goes from strength to strength and we have a Heritage website.
