The Marine Sciences team within the School of Biological & Marine Sciences at the University of Plymouth is seeking to appoint a new Lecturer to take a major role in delivering and furthering our hydrography teaching and research. Plymouth has a long history of teaching in hydrography and the subject is a key area of growth within the University. Expertise of particular interest would include applications of hydrography in the coastal environment, with a focus on data collection (including experience with autonomous platforms) to further understanding of coastal processes, or studies of coastal and/or inner-shelf marine geoscience which shed light on coastal evolution and sediment transport processes. You will either be a highly motivated and dynamic academic, with experience in marine survey, or an experienced individual with extensive proven expertise in hydrography through commercial practice. You will be expected to make a major contribution to and further develop our MSc Hydrography programme, as well as associated undergraduate courses within the Marine Science subject area (including our BSc (Hons) Ocean Exploration and Surveying course). You will also be expected to introduce new capabilities to the globally recognised Coastal Processes Research Group (CPRG). While this role is closely aligned to our BSc programmes in Ocean Exploration and Surveying and Ocean Science, and the postgraduate programmes, MSc Hydrography and MSc Applied Marine Science, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to teaching across the Marine Sciences Subject Group https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/schools/school-of-biological-and-marine-sciences/marine-science You will have a doctoral degree, equivalent international qualification or commensurate level of recognition/national profile in a relevant discipline (e.g., Hydrography, Oceanography, Marine Geoscience), supported by experience at postdoctoral or industry equivalent level, and a proven track record of high calibre research/industry outputs of a quality likely to contribute to our future UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission or enterprise income. Clear evidence of successful grant applications (or industry equivalent) as a PI is desirable.
