Description: This is an exciting and influential role working across the organisation but based within the Human Resources Directorate, reporting directly to the Health Safety and Wellbeing Manager. You will provide generalist Health Safety and Wellbeing professional advice and guidance underpinned by up to date understanding of legislation, policy, theory and practice, providing advice, guidance and support for customers at all levels.
You will understand the business needs, and work with colleagues and leaders across the whole University to implement, develop and maintain the policies, procedures and guidance required to ensure the University complies effectively with Health and Safety legislation and best practice
You will act as a ‘Competent Advisor’ as required by regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will possess the relevant qualifications and experience to effectively undertake this important role within the organisation for example:
Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or working towards (GradIOSH), with a NEBOSH Diploma (essential)
Previous Health and Safety Advisor experience within a large organisation (essential)
Develop, review, update and deliver specialist Health, Safety and Wellbeing training to all customers across the organization (essential).
Demonstrable experience as a trained and experienced ‘Competent Advisor’ within a large organisation (essential)
The ability to understand, interpret and apply UK Health, Safety and Wellbeing legislation and best practice to deliver accurate and tailored Health, Safety and Wellbeing advice and guidance (essential)
Ability to translate legislative requirements and risk-based solutions into clear guidance to a range of stakeholders on complex Health and Safety issues.
Clear understanding and experience of working with Health, Safety and Wellbeing legislation (essential)
Understand and identify potentially complex or high-risk issues and have the ability to provide strategies for their effective management (essential)
Knowledge and understanding of the HE context (desirable)
Proficient in the use of MICROSOFT Word, Excel, Outlook, Share Point (365) and PowerPoint (essential)
Strong communication skills both spoken and written, formal and informal (essential)
Skilled in presentation and facilitation (essential)
The ability to work independently and as part of a team (essential)
Drive, energy and passion for their subject area
Ability to influence all levels of customer (essential)
Ability to use a range of problem-solving skills to develop innovative and practical solutions (essential)

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
