Job Description
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a dedicated and dynamic neuro team in Oxford. This role provides the opportunity to work in a rewarding, specialist environment, offering high-quality occupational therapy services to individuals with neurological conditions. The role is full-time, although part-time candidates will also be considered. The ideal candidate can start as soon as possible, with a competitive hourly rate of up to£30.

Key Responsibilities:
Neurological Assessments and Interventions: Conduct thorough assessments of patients with neurological conditions, including stroke, brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's. Provide evidence-based occupational therapy interventions aimed at improving motor skills, cognitive function, sensory processing, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
Individualized Treatment Plans: Develop and implement personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s specific condition, abilities, and rehabilitation goals. Work with patients to enhance their functional independence and quality of life by focusing on cognitiverehabilitation, fine and gross motor function, and independence in daily tasks such as dressing, cooking, and personal hygiene.
Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including neurologists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers. Work as part of an integrated team to provide holistic, patient-centered care that supports both the physical and emotional needs of patients with complex neurological conditions.
Neuro-specific Therapy Techniques: Utilize neuro-specific therapy approaches such as constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT), cognitive rehabilitation therapy (CRT), functional electrical stimulation (FES), and other therapeutic interventions to enhance recovery. Adapt treatment techniques to meet the needs of patients at various stages of rehabilitation, from acute care to long-term management.
Patient Education and Family Support: Provide education and training to patients and their families about neurological conditions, rehabilitation strategies, adaptive techniques, and the use of assistive technology. Empower patients to make informed decisions about their care and support them in managing their condition long-term.
Progress Monitoring and Documentation: Continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, adjusting treatment plans as required to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients. Document all assessments, treatment plans, and progress in line with professional standards and organizational policies.
Discharge Planning and Transition to Community: Play an integral role in discharge planning, ensuring that patients are safely transitioned from hospital care to community-based services or home environments. Make recommendations for home adaptations, mobility aids, and ongoing therapy or rehabilitation services to support long-term recovery.
Essential Criteria:
HCPC registered Occupational Therapist.
Significant experience in working with neurological patients, including those with stroke, brain injuries, MS, Parkinson’s disease, or other neurodegenerative conditions.
Strong clinical assessment and treatment planning skills, with the ability to apply neuro-specific therapy techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Experience in providing patient and family education on the management of neurological conditions and rehabilitation strategies.
Ability to work independently, manage a diverse caseload, and prioritize tasks effectively.
Desirable Criteria:
Post-graduate training or specialization in neurological occupational therapy.
Experience working in a neurorehabilitation setting or a hospital with a dedicated neuro team.
Familiarity with neuroplasticity approaches and cognitive rehabilitation techniques.
