2 x Trainee Educational Psychologists Fixed Term until 31 August 2027
Salary - Soulbury Trainee Educational Psychologist main scale A 2-6
At Hull City Council we are committed to our children and young people, and we are passionate about how we deliver services to them. That’s why we are developing and nurturing a culture that puts our children and young people at the heart of everything we do - by empowering our workforce to work together to find solutions, to be open, honest and respectful, to take responsibility and listen and learn from others.
If you value these behaviours too, we’d love to hear from you. Hull is a changing local authority and it’s a fantastic time to join us and be a key player in supporting our journey.
Hull City Psychological Service is seeking to recruit three Trainee Educational Psychologists entering, preferably, year 2 of the Doctorate Training programme in September 2025 and who want to become valued members of a collaborative team with a focus on developing high quality psychological services across the city. We are a highly regarded Service within the local authority and have strong links with Sheffield and Nottingham Universities through our partnership working.
Hull City Psychological Service is committed to transforming lives through psychology and making positive change possible. You will be encouraged to be innovative and reflective in your practice as well as sharing in and communicating our vision and values. Alongside this work, you will deliver our core offer with opportunities for project and development work in our traded element with the Virtual School. This is a great opportunity to develop your practice whilst experiencing excellent peer support. You will also receive weekly supervision sessions and bi-annual appraisal meetings at which time individual training and CPD needs can be identified and discussed. We are very keen to promote the use of systemic ideas within our practice and would welcome applicants who would also like to develop their skills in a relational way.
You can expect dedicated admin support; full use of IT services including the latest equipment; accessible and free car parking on most sites with reduced price parking passes for the City Centre. Mileage is reimbursed at HMRC business rates or you may prefer to take advantage of our Cycle to work or car schemes. Under the Work Smart scheme remote working is also encouraged but we have a well-appointed and newly furbished office in the City Centre which is frequently used by the team. All applicants receive a comprehensive induction programme from a senior member of the Service with orientation provided by peers. There is an excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and a Relocation Allowance for newly appointed staff moving from outside the area.
You must hold an Honours degree in Psychology and be expected to successfully complete Year 1 of the Educational Psychology Doctorate. It is also anticipated that you will complete your Doctoral qualification and be registered with the HCPC as a‘Practitioner psychologist’ at the end of your 3-year doctoral course. As part of this role, you will be required to travel to settings out in the community, therefore, a full and valid driving licence is essential.
