Hull, Yorkshire and the Humber 3 hours ago
Job Description
Closing date:21 April 2025
Are you an innovative leader who believes that Children’s Homes should be a launch pad to successful futures?
At Hull City Council we are committed to our children and young people, and we are passionate about how we deliver services to them. That’s why we are developing and nurturing a culture that puts our children and young people at the heart of everything we do - by empowering our workforce to work together to find solutions, to be open, honest, and respectful, to take responsibility and listen and learn from others. If you value these behaviours too, we’d love to hear from you. Hull is a changing local authority and it’s a fantastic time to join us and be a key player in supporting our journey.
Hull Children’s Young People and Family Services have an opportunity for a Group Manager to join our children’s homes team. Children’s homes in Hull are going through an exciting time of growth and development. We are looking for a high-quality and innovative leader that can help build on our successes and continuously raise the standard for Hull’s children. Our Children’s homes provide high quality care for the most vulnerable children in Hull. We pride ourselves on forming positive relationships and offering nurturing homes. We are committed to helping young people living in our Children’s Homes have positive life experiences and reach their potential.
We are looking for passionate leaders who can demonstrate their skills, resilience, and experience in managing homes and services. You will need to be imaginative, motivated and show tenacity for protecting and being a champion for children and young people. You will be responsible for building effective professional relationships with partners across the City and will need to be confident in managing performance and quality of practice. You must be able to work robustly to relevant legislation and have a good knowledge of Inspection Frameworks, with positive planning skills to raise standards and strive for excellence.
You can expect to join a welcoming service, where expectations are high and where you will receive support and supervision to develop a culture and environment where practice can flourish and where services to children and young people are of a high standard. As a member of the operational leadership team, you will be instrumental in the development and planning of services. You will be fully committed to the local vision for children in Hull and be able to demonstrate effective leadership experience within a social work context. Occasionally you will be required to work at a strategic level within a local setting and to contribute to regional and national developments.
You must have either:
A Professional qualification in Social Work (Diploma in Social Work, BA/BSc/MA in Social Work, CQSW as required by Social Work England)
OR
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.
It is critical that you have extensive experience of children’s services in a social care background and prompting of safeguarding/welfare of children. Ensure the level of practice is informed via sound assessment and judgement.
Please ensure that your application demonstrates how you meet the essential criteria against the person specification as listed in the job description.
Why it's great to work for Hull City Council:
A competitive salary of up to£55,796 per annum
An excellent pension through the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
Up to 31 days annual leave depending on grade and length of service. You will also get eight public holidays per year, and three additional days off, one in May/August and one during the Christmas/New Year period
Career development and learning experiences from a range of training courses and learning methods
A generous relocation package available
Supportive and forward-thinking culture
Flexible working hours
