Hull, Yorkshire and the Humber 1+ months ago

Job Description

Closing date:04 May 2025 Casual Support Workers – SCP 3 -£12.45 per hour (plus 12.06% statutory holiday pay entitlement) Casual Care Officers – SCP 14 -£14.84 per hour (plus 12.06% statutory holiday pay entitlement) Are you playful and accepting, can you show curiosity and empathy? If you can then you have something really special to offer our Children living in Children’s Homes.   If trauma brings resilience, then our Children are superheroes - they deserve the best; the best homes, the best help, the best opportunities, and children tell us over and over again, it’s the staff that matter. We believe that we need the right people, with the right commitment, skills, tenacity, imagination, and energy in order to offer the best to our children. To do this you will be offered high quality support, training, guidance, and development and be part of a motivated and ambitious team.   Hull City Council has been on a journey of improvement and has become a leading provider of Children's Homes. We are committed to developing nurturing, high quality homes where children can thrive and achieve their next steps.  To ensure we have a constant pool of staff to work within the Department’s Children’s Homes, we wish to appoint a number of Casual Support Workers and Casual Care Officers. Homes are located across the City and provide both short and long-term care and support to Children and Young People who are unable to live within their own family home. This role is to cover holidays, absence and training, and does not have a set working pattern or regular hours. Due to the long shifts that may also include sleep in shifts, the ability to be flexible as to when, and how many hours you are able to work is essential.  Where possible, work is pre-arranged however, there may be times when you will be asked to work at short notice.  Various training courses are also mandatory, which will require you to attend over several days, during weekdays. Please contact Lucy Colman for an informal discussion around how our scheduling works and the training you will need to attend, should you be successful. Support Workers About the role: The role of a Support Worker is to form part of a team and take direction and guidance from Seniors and Care Officers, in order to provide a safe, stimulating environment, and high quality care for children. Roles are within all our different services including Disabilities, Group Homes, Solo Homes and our Family Connect Hub. About you: You must be able to communicate with and assist children with social, personal and physical care and implement Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Restorative Practices within your daily practices. All the successful candidates will be offered all the relevant training to ensure they are equipped to implement all the policies and procedures of the Council. You will work as part of a team to provide a high quality, effective service to meet the needs of children in the home. You will be required to work irregular hours, as and when required, for specific purposes.  You must have experience of working in a social care environment. Experience of working with children in a paid or voluntary capacity is desirable. Care Officers About the role: This role is to predominantly provide cover in our Solo Provisions and Disability Homes (although you may be asked to cover shifts across any of our services, should the need arise). It involves providing a highly skilled level of care including taking the lead with care packages and ensuring Support Workers are guided and supported and in the absence of a Senior Care Officer, taking responsibility for decisions relating to the safeguarding and care of children as well as responding to the needs of families and staff on duty. This role will include taking the lead on shift as there are only two staff members per shift and you will be expected to work within our lone working policy and make professional safeguarding decisions that will impact both the young person and the team, this will specifically apply where there is no senior care officer present. You will also be expected to be competent in both written work and admin that is specific to the role and be able to clearly communicate any information necessary, or that needs passing on to relevant professionals. About you: You must have all of the above, plus: You must have a level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent, or the ability to complete this within two years of appointment. Experience working with vulnerable adults or children in a safeguarding or care setting. A strong motivation to work with Children and Young People and ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships. An ability to work within relevant framework when assessing situations, in order to make decisions and recommendations.  You must be experienced, skilled and confident to lead on all elements of care, and be able to guide and support others. If you are successful in securing an interview, you will be assessed against the Essential Criteria for both roles to determine the level of your skill, knowledge and experience.  The Job Descriptions for both roles are available to view in the Related Information section, please click on the links. We would encourage you to read these before applying.  Please ensure that your application demonstrates how you meet the essential criteria against the person specification as listed in the job description.  We understand that you may have questions or want to speak to someone who already works here to find out more about current opportunities, please feel free to contact Lucy Colman on 01482 692 060 for an informal chat.
