SEN Support Worker, in Gloucester, GL4. A Weekend and School Holiday position is available for a SEN Professional, Teaching Assistant or Teacher seeking additional income. Fantastic role supporting an engaging 14-year-old who loves adventure! Offering up to£148.50 Gross per Shift.

Wage/Salary: £15.50 - £16.50 Gross per Hour | £124.00 - £148.50 Gross per Shift. Depending on Experience.
Driver Essential? Yes, training can be provided to drive client’s automatic WAV
Essential: Enthusiasm, patience and willingness to support a young person with additional needs, confident in water, outgoing personality
Desirable: An interest or prior experience carrying out therapy programmes and experience using specialist equipment such as hoists would be useful. Non-smoker.
Start Date: ASAP
Days&Hours: Up to 3 shifts per month, Saturday or Sunday. Typical shift times: 9.00am to 5.00pm OR 10.00am to 7.00pm. Additional 2 shifts available during school holidays, weekday shifts to be mutually agreed.

About this client/child: Callum aged 14 is an active, happy and very social young man. He enjoys adapted sport, swimming, the theatre, socialising and just being out and about. He has cerebral palsy and requires support for all activities of daily living, including personal care and assisting with social and leisure opportunities. Callum independently drives his wheelchair and loves an active lifestyle. He uses an electronic talker for his communication as well as some of his own gestures/signs. Callum will require support with his feeding, but he can manage mashed food well and has a PEG fitted for water and medication only.
Overview of role: We are looking for an SEN Support Worker / Buddy who can facilitate Callum’s active schedule and assist him with the activities he loves to do. Callum loves making new friends with people he meets when out in the community and will initiate conversation – your guidance will be required in relation to this. Some activities away from the family home will require 2:1 support. You will need to be proactive in relation to identifying new activities and experiences for him to do. His family home has been adapted for his needs, including a through floor lift. There is also a separate carers’ room provided with sink, kitchenette and chairs available which can be usedduring breaks. Whilst prior experience supporting a young person with a physical disability will be useful, full training will be provided, so having the right approach and personality is key! There will be the potential, by mutual agreement, for further school holidays and more weekends if of interest and sick leave cover for other team members. The hourly rate being offered is between £15.50 and £16.50 Gross Per Hour depending on experience.

We are looking for someone who is outgoing with a real sense of adventure who is happy to participate in a variety of outdoor activities. Being proactive, upbeat, having an encouraging approach and a good sense of humour will be key. The appointment of a second support worker on a bank contract would be considered.
