Job Description

The Deputy Nursery Manager is responsible to the Proprietor/Manager. Duties will include: In their absence, the nursery manager will be deputising for the Nursery Manager and responsible for the daily running and administration of the Nursery, such as responding to emails, keeping up to date with famly messages, completing sessions and shifts, and sending brochures to prospective parents. Adhering to the Policies and Procedures of the Nursery, ensuring compliance with the Children Act, Health and Safety legislation, and the Welfare Requirements within the Early Years Foundation Stage. Ensuring confidentiality is maintained in the Nursery. Having key-holder responsibility. Assisting the Manager in ensuring effective staff recruitment following recruitment procedures. Assisting the Manager to ensure a tier management system is in place and that duties are delegated fairly. Maintaining staff ratios and ensuring staff are deployed effectively to carry out daily routines. Assisting the Manager with staff meetings, in-house training, and monitoring staff ongoing assessments, such as room observations that will feed into the staff’s supervisions. Supporting and liaising with the Manager when required with regard to staffing, children or health and safety in the Nursery. Ensuring the staff are able to still air their grievances, or safeguarding concerns in the Manager’s absence. Therefore, it is imperative that good communication is maintained with staff on a day-to-day basis. Care and supervision of the children with regard to their physical, emotional, and intellectual needs. Plan and prepare activities to develop all aspects of the child’s individual development in a stimulating atmosphere within your baseroom. Role modeling the nursery ethos to the team and supporting the team with their practice and professional development. Ensuring that the preparation, care, cleanliness, and maintenance of the Nursery playrooms, kitchen, and equipment are carried out according to the Policies and Procedures andRisk Assessments. Liaising with parents and ensuring effective communication within the Nursery. Working with the Manager to maintain administrative records and make sure there are enough of – risk assessments, garden checks, and internal checks, sleep checks. The Deputy Manager must at all times ensure that only designated staff administer medication as recorded in the risk assessments and operational file and that the Manager is informed of all medication administered. Attendance and management of staff meetings at times appointed by the Nursery Manager. Reporting to the Proprietor/Manager any incident concerning the welfare of the children. Assisting the Proprietor/Manager in maintaining equipment and the building in a safe condition, reporting faults. Ensuring adequate stocks and supplies of all equipment, e.g.; paint resources, nappies, creative or garden supplies. Offering all children equal opportunities with regard to their cultural/religious identity, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background, in particular, challenging situations where racism or discrimination is displayed. Assisting the Manager and participating in arranging regular parents’ evenings, publicity, open days, and children’s outings, and ensuring effective marketing. Assisting the Proprietor/Manager in promoting childcare to parents, local companies and visitors, to secure high occupancy, utilisation, efficiency, and effective development of the Nursery. Following the Safeguarding Policy and reporting to the Manager of any incident concerning the welfare of the children. Providing a good role model for Nursery Nurses, Assistants, and Students. Assisting the Manager with Staff Induction and helping new staff fit into the Nursery. Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Proprietor/Manager. NB.
