Quality Control Analyst Interview Questions
Interviewer: Good morning, can you please introduce yourself and tell us about your qualifications for the position of Quality Control Analyst?
Candidate: Good morning, my name is Jane and I have a degree in Chemistry. I have also worked in the quality control department for three years at XYZ pharmaceutical company.
Interviewer: What would you say are the most important skills a Quality Control Analyst should have?
Candidate: Attention to detail, critical thinking, the ability to work with others, and organization skills.
Interviewer: Can you describe a time when you discovered a significant deviation in a product that resulted in a major corrective action?
Candidate: In my previous job, I found an instance where the pH of a finished product was off. This resulted in a recall of the product and a change in our manufacturing process to prevent future incidents.
Interviewer: What steps do you take to ensure compliance with FDA regulations?
Candidate: I keep up to date with the latest regulatory standards and guidelines, ensure documents are properly filled and stored, review batch records, and communicate with other departments to ensure compliance.
Interviewer: How do you prioritize tasks when it comes to testing and analysis?
Candidate: I look at deadlines, the level of risk involved, and resources available, and I communicate with my manager to determine priorities.
Interviewer: Can you describe how you test for impurities or contaminants in a product?
Candidate: We first identify the potential impurities, then determine the best method to detect them. We use multiple analytical testing methods including HPLC, GC, FTIR, and NMR.
Interviewer: How do you ensure accuracy in your testing methods?
Candidate: Our SOPs are regularly revised and optimized to ensure accuracy. We perform regular calibrations of equipment and instruments, and conduct regular training with staff to ensure correct techniques.
Interviewer: Can you describe how you develop and maintain relationships with other departments regarding Quality Control?
Candidate: We maintain regular communication with other departments to identify regulatory changes or potential areas of concern. We also ensure that all batches are tested on time and that necessary documentation is shared.
Interviewer: Can you give us an example of how you handle conflicts or disagreements with colleagues in order to maintain project efficiency?
Candidate: I always maintain a professional demeanor, actively listen to my colleagues, and look for ways to compromise and find solutions. Our shared goal is to maintain quality control standards and I always keep that in mind when working with colleagues.
Interviewer: What do you think are the most significant challenges in quality control and how would you approach them?
Candidate: Staying up-to-date with regulatory changes and ensuring employee training are the biggest challenges. I approach this challenge by regularly attending training sessions and ensuring employee training schedules are kept.
Interviewer: How do you stay current with new developments and changes in quality control practices?
Candidate: I read journals, attend conferences, and network with peers in the industry.
Interviewer: Tell me about a time when a project did not go as planned and how you handled the situation.
Candidate: A project I worked on had a considerable delay because of a raw material shortage. I contacted the supplier and created a backup plan to avoid a further delay.
Interviewer: What technical experience do you have with software used in quality control such as LIMS or CDS?
Candidate: In my previous job, I was proficient with Empower CDS software and other LIMS software.
Interviewer: How do you ensure that data obtained from analytical testing is properly documented and meets GMP standards?
Candidate: We ensure full documentation of testing equipment, analytical methods and results so that it meets GMP standards by following SOPs.
Interviewer: Lastly, why should we choose you for this position of Quality Control Analyst?

Scenario Questions
1. Scenario: A manufacturing company produces canned goods and wants to ensure that every can contains the correct amount of product. As a QC Analyst, what statistical technique would you use to determine if the cans are filled properly?
Candidate Answer: I would use sampling techniques, such as random sampling, to select a number of cans from each batch and measure their weight to see if they meet the predetermined range of acceptable weights. I would then use statistical process control charts to monitor and track the filling process over time.
2. Scenario: A pharmaceutical company wants to ensure that their new medication is effective at treating a specific condition. What type of data analysis would you recommend to confirm its effectiveness?
Candidate Answer: I would recommend conducting a double-blind randomized control trial, where a group of participants are given the medication and another group is given a placebo. Then, the outcome of each group’s treatment is compared to determine if the medication is effective in treating the condition.
3. Scenario: A beverage company is producing a new line of drinks and wants to ensure that the new flavors are well received by their target market. As a QC Analyst, what metrics or data points would you collect to measure customer satisfaction?
Candidate Answer: To measure customer satisfaction, I would collect feedback through surveys and social media reviews to see how customers feel about the taste, texture, and overall experience of the new drinks. I would track sales data to see if the new line is selling well and monitor customer complaints to see if any issues or concerns arise.
4. Scenario: A toy manufacturer wants to ensure that their new line of stuffed animals is safe and free of hazards. What methods would you use to test the safety of the new products?
Candidate Answer: I would conduct various tests such as drop tests to ensure the products can withstand a fall, choke tests to ensure small pieces are not easy to come off, flammability tests to test the products under fire, and shearing tests to ensure fabrics do not easily tear, etc. These tests will ensure the stuffed animals are safe for children to use and play with.
5. Scenario: A food packaging company wants to ensure the freshness of their products. As a QC Analyst, what data points or measurements would you use to determine and monitor freshness?
Candidate Answer: I would examine the expiry date of the product, the packaging seal, and the overall design of the packaging with respect to the product. We can also taking regular samples and analyzing the pH level and microbiological properties to detect spoilage or change in chemical substances that deteriorate the quality of the product.
