Scenario Questions
1. Scenario: A user reports that their computer is running very slow. They have tried restarting it but the problem persists. What steps would you take to troubleshoot the issue?
Candidate Answer: First, I would check if there are any processes or applications running that are using a lot of resources. I would open Task Manager and look at CPU and RAM usage. If there is something using a lot of resources, I would end that process or application. If that doesn't solve the issue, I would check the computer for malware or viruses using an antivirus program. If the problem still persists, I would check for hardware issues such as a failing hard drive or a lack of memory.
2. Scenario: A user needs assistance setting up a new printer. What steps would you take to help them?
Candidate Answer: First, I would ask them what kind of printer they have and if they have the necessary drivers and software installed on their computer. If not, I would guide them through downloading and installing the necessary software from the printer manufacturer's website. Once the software is installed, I would assist them in physically setting up the printer, such as connecting it to the computer and making sure it has the necessary ink or toner. Finally, I would test the printer to make sure it is functioning correctly.
3. Scenario: A user is unable to connect to the company's Wi-Fi network. What steps would you take to troubleshoot the issue?
Candidate Answer: First, I would check if the Wi-Fi network is available and if other users are able to connect. If the network is unavailable, I would check the router for any issues such as a power outage or hardware failure. If the network is available, I would check the user's device to make sure that Wi-Fi is turned on and that they are attempting to connect to the correct network. If the issue persists, I would try resetting the user's network settings and restarting their device.
4. Scenario: A user accidentally deletes an important file. What steps would you take to try and recover the file?
Candidate Answer: First, I would check if the file has been moved to the Recycle Bin or Trash folder. If not, I would try using a file recovery program to scan the hard drive for deleted files. If successful, I would restore the file and save it to a secure location to prevent further loss. If the file recovery program is unsuccessful or the file has been corrupted, I would try to locate a backup of the file if one exists.
5. Scenario: The company's server experiences a sudden spike in traffic, causing it to slow down significantly. What steps would you take to troubleshoot the issue?
Candidate Answer: First, I would check the server logs to see if there is any unusual activity or errors. If there is a specific application or process causing the spike in traffic, I would try to isolate and stop that process. If the issue is more widespread, I would try to increase the server's resources such as memory or CPU power. Finally, if the issue persists, I would contact any third-party service providers or vendors that may be responsible for the sudden spike in traffic.
