Job Duties: · Operate and drive primarily tractor-trailer, long-combination vehicle's and straight-body trucks to transport goods and materials over long distances · Plan trip logistics and obtain the required documentation to transport goods · Perform pre-trip, in route, and post-trip inspection of vehicle systems, equipment, and accessories such as tires, lights and turn signals, brakes, and cold storage · Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and check on cargo at every stop during the long haul. · Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes and ensure that all documentation pertaining to travelling between states or countries is in order · Record cargo information, hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption · Use GPS and/or maps to chart out the best route which is time and fuel-efficient · Administer bills of lading and manually or electronically maintain log books · Communicate with dispatcher, other drivers, and customers using communication devices and on-board computers · Perform any repairs that may need to carried out, especially during roadside emergency · May drive as part of a two-person team or convoy · Ensure that goods are delivered to the right destination and obtain signatures from the party to whom the goods have been delivered to.
