Job Duties: · Operate and drive primarily tractor-trailor, long-combination vehicle and straight-body trucks to transport goods and materials over long distances · Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection of vehicle systems, equipment and accessories such as tires, lights and turning signals, brakes and cold storage. · Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and check on cargo at every stop during the long haul. · Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes and ensure that all documentation pertaining to travelling between states or countries is in sequence. · Ensuing that the truck is in proper condition before setting off. · Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. · Use GPS and / or maps to trace out the most convenient route which is time and fuel efficient. · Manually or electronically maintain log books, besides administering waybills. · Communicate with dispatcher, other drivers and customers using communication devices and on-board computers. · Conduct any repairs that may need to be performed especially during roadside emergency. · May drive as part of a two-person team or convoy. · Ensure that goods are delivered to the right destination and obtain signatures from the party to whom the goods have been delivered to.
