The Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission (SWDC) is a producer-led organization established by the Saskatchewan government in June 2013 to build a platform for growth in the province?s wheat industry.? Its mandate is to enhance wheat producers? competitiveness and profitability through research, market development, advocacy, and producer communications and extension activities.?The Agronomy Extension Specialist, under the supervision of the Executive Director, and working closely with the Research and Communications Managers, will be responsible for the development, coordination and extension of agronomic information and research results to Sask Wheat producers. This is a permanent full-time, salaried position (37.5 hours per week); some travel will be required. If you have a passion for extension and communicating agronomic information to producers and agronomists, we want to hear from you.?Key Responsibilities: - Act as a liaison, building strong, collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with producers, researchers, government, industry, fellow commodity organizations and other stakeholders;- Participate in Sask Wheat extension events, regional meetings, and various other events as required;- Identify and pursue outreach/extension opportunities that deliver value to our producers and promote wheat, rye and triticale research, agronomy and production information;- Develop regular agronomic content and interpret research results for inclusion in Sask Wheat publications, newsletters, podcasts and webinars;- Develop resource materials (factsheets, guides) to share research and strategic production information;- Manage Sask Wheat?s on-farm trial program, small plot field trials including protocol development, experimental design, statistical analysis, and interpretation of results;- Review research proposals, as well as ongoing and completed agronomy project reports and KTT plans;- Project management of agronomic research projects as directed by the Research Program Manager including attending funding meetings, communicating with researchers, contract development, reviewing reports, issuing payment requisitions and tracking of project details in the database;- Support creation and execution of agronomic extension campaigns with our partnering commissions? agronomy staff to develop coordinated messaging where appropriate;- Highly organized, with critical thinking, problem solving and project management abilities; able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and programs.- Represent Sask Wheat on external industry working groups, committees and boards as required;- Stay appraised of current agronomic research and relevant science;- Other related activities as requested by the Executive Director.?Education and Work Experience: The knowledge and skills required for the position will most likely have been obtained through a Bachelor?s degree (and preferably a Master?s degree) in agronomy with significant knowledge of crop-based agriculture in western Canada and at least 5 years? work experience in agronomic and research extension activities.? Must hold Professional Agrologist and Certified Crop Advisor certifications.??The Saskatchewan Wheat Commission offers a competitive, incentive-based compensation package including base salary and benefits.
