Learn more about our extraordinary teams building inspiring projects in our Impact Report.  Project Overview: Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world. Job Summary: As Senior Mechanical Designer, you will plan, develop, and review mechanical design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project.  You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries, solving complex technical issues and ensuring mechanical designs comply with all regulations and standards.   Major Responsibilities: Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews design work within a small-size Mechanical design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit. Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing. Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of Mechanical engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management. Prepares or oversees the preparation of Mechanical design estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly. Develops Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices. Other responsibilities as designated. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge and Skills: Sound knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, graphic arts, reading of drawings, and reproduction methods used by the discipline. Experience with multi discipline interface management and global 3D model oversight. Expertise in reading, interpreting and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups. Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to design responsibilities. Specialist courses in drafting, design and engineering practices. Extensive experience in design and drafting, including demonstrated expertise in a lead role or recognized courses in the directing of personnel. Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
