Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world. Bechtel Mining and Metals Business Unit is seeking a Senior Conceptual Estimator to support our ongoing efforts to support Customers in the initiation or concept phases of studies. As a senior estimator you will be required to have significant experience estimating projects within the M&M commodity sectors. Since this is a global position, we are open to considering candidates from any location to fill this role. This position will perform cost estimating, generate capital cost and/or services estimates, perform data analysis identifying gaps or shortfalls and make recommendations, and control activities for project and/or proposal efforts. You will support estimate reporting and review and provide technical direction to assigned personnel when delegated. Major Responsibilities: Prepares high level factor driven estimates to enable executive decision making. Assists Study Managers with high level assessments on trade off studies. Utilizes benchmarking data for high level estimate validation during proposal phases Prepares services, distributable, contractor indirect and/or capital cost estimates in specialized discipline areas using current techniques and market pricing. Prepares cost/schedule products for proposals or contract negotiations. Other responsibilities as designated. Foundation Development Researches, develops, and maintains costs, quantities, ratios and metrics of the historical cost databases. Understands the data and various sources of data. Extracts non-standard data and formulates the data into comparative summary format for analysis. Inputs cost data into the historical cost databases. Files completed estimates with all relevant back-up documentation yielding an easy-to-follow paper trail. Generates estimates with appropriate global business unit software. Project / Site Management Support Converts work breakdown structure used in the estimate to project job and sub-job codes. Converts commodity-coding system used in the estimate to a system for a project. Performs price or cost analysis for reasonableness. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge and Skills: In-depth knowledge of the mining sector commodities and conceptual estimating methods Demonstrated intermediate understanding of Estimating core processes requiring minimal direction and supervision. Knowledge of EPC and EPCM estimating methods, processes, and procedures, in addition to the estimate types, classifications, and components. Experience with Lump Sum Design Build estimates. Specifically understands detail level estimates and design packages. Experience with performing estimates for conceptual level, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. Experience with scenario estimating related to trade-off studies. Knowledge of market pricing and pricing sources in area of specialization Broad knowledge and experience in construction estimating practices and methods. Practical experience in performing quantity take-offs, statistical analysis, and cost and price analysis. Skill in understanding technical discipline processes. Familiar with engineering and construction codes and standards. Familiar with commercial terms and conditions (contractor relationships, currency exchange, taxation, inflation, insurance, escalation, etc.) Understanding of cost index and escalation projections sources. Full understanding of project cash flows and the corresponding time value of money as the cost of working capital. Familiar with risk and contingency. Excellent applied analytical and quantitative skills. Effective in utilizing metrics to provide reasonableness checks. Basic knowledge of financial report systems, Controller account codes and understanding of Controller Instructions that impact estimates.
