Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
Develops and implements the Environmental, Safety and Health Management System on an assigned Project.
Provides technical oversight of the project’s ES&H compliance activities through identification and integration of applicable requirements into Project Construction plans and schedules and other field execution activities.
Works directly with other project-level functional leads (e.g., engineering, construction, subcontracts, procurement, project controls, document controls) to assist them in integrating and/or addressing the applicable ES&H requirements in their work products and activities.
Position will be located in Perth, as the Project progresses, there will be a requirement for this position to relocate to the Project job site on a FIFO roster.
Major Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain the Project ESH Management Program and associated supporting documentation.
Implementing and ensuring compliance of work contractors to the project-level safety management program.
Actively supports the project and construction management in implementing and complying with project safety requirements and in addressing ES&H issues as they arise during project execution.
Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to other project-assigned functional leads (e.g., engineering, subcontracts, procurement, project controls) with regards to compliance with project-specific ES&H requirements.
Attend and participate in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety requirements.
Provide technical support and assistance directly to construction supervision and subcontractors in planning and executing field activities in accordance with the project safety requirements.
Provide support in comprehensive project ES&H planning, safety and health specific plans, project specific mitigation plans, safety and health awareness training programs, and technical and regulatory reports.
Conducts safety assessments/inspections of project construction activities to monitor compliance with ES&H requirements including contractual commitments, laws and regulations, and the project’s ES&H plan.
Work with construction personnel to develop risk assessments, JHA’s and project specific mitigation plans, safety and health awareness training programs, and technical and regulatory reports.
Other duties as per job requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s or Master's degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental, safety, health or science-related discipline and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Leadership skills to enable a team to be successful - coach, mentor, participate, direct
Professional skill set to deliver quality ESH programs, reporting and monitoring
High level of written and verbal communication
Attributes that openly display ESH as a personal value
Degree or Gradate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related science/engineering area preferred
Diverse experience in ES&H role
Experience working in construction and mining industry
Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting accident investigations, compliance audits and project health surveys is preferred
Proficiency in conducting HSE training programs
Proficiency in assisting construction with development of risk assessments and associated job hazard analysis.
Intermediate knowledge and use of Microsoft software applications
Excellent written and oral communication
General Construction Safety Induction (White Card)
Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training preferred
Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
