The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Aboriginal Advanced Case Manager to provide a critical role within Community Correctional Services.
About the Business Unit
Community Correctional Services (CCS) contributes to the safety of the community by applying practices that reduce reoffending and connect individuals to programs, services and community. CCS provides management of individuals on court orders, people who have committed serious sex offences on post sentence supervision and prisoners on parole.
Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) understands that to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the justice system and to achieve a reduction in the rate of reoffending, unique strategies and initiatives must be implemented.
Through its long-standing commitment to the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Plan, the Koori Inclusion Action Plan and in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal community, CJS has developed this unique Aboriginal Advanced Case Manager role.
The Aboriginal Advanced Case Manager will be responsible for managing a case load with a majority of Aboriginal persons to deliver dynamic evidence based best practice in the case management of individuals with complex needs and those who have committed serious offences. The unique purpose of this role is that it will be responsible for leading the provision of advice to General Managers/Operations Managers and Community Correctional Services on issues impacting on the effective case management of Aboriginal persons and the development and implementation of cultural support plans.
The role will also be responsible for supporting the Aboriginal Case Manager and other case managers in their case management of Aboriginal persons. Aboriginal Advanced Case Managers may also be required to provide advice to the Koori Court to assist in the sentencing process.
This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
Some of your duties will include:
Apply evidence-based practice in the case management of a caseload of predominantly Aboriginal persons assessed as being at high risk of reoffending, including ensuring effective assessment, planning, intervention and review.
Lead the provision of advice to General Managers, Operations Managers and the Community Correctional Services team on issues impacting on the effective case management of Aboriginal persons.
Develop and implement cultural support plans for Aboriginal persons.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of best practice case management frameworks including the provision of needs assessment in human services context.
Ability to implement theoretical concepts to reduce risk and maximise individual outcomes.
Qualifications/requirements
Relevant experience in social work or related human services discipline (preferred) or criminal justice, criminology (desirable) with a qualification in a related field (desirable).
Completion of the Certificate III in Correctional Practice within 12 months of commencement (if assessed as necessary).
